#Paris2024
My name is Jemima Yeats-Brown and I was selected to represent Team GB at the #Paris2024 Olympic Games in the judo event.
Being selected for the Olympics was a dream come true, and I was so excited to put on my judo kit on competition day and walk out to fight in my first match against Madagascar, which I won. I then narrowly lost in a really tight golden score match to an Austrian fighter who went on to win bronze.
I gave it everything in the lead up to the games and on the day itself, so I have no regrets.
FANS Support
I benefitted enormously as a member of the FANS scheme in Kent, especially in the early stages of my career.
The scheme and subsequent grants allowed me to self-fund my way to training camps and competitions abroad, gaining exposure to different fighters and styles.
The scheme also helped me recover quicker from some serious injuries and surgeries enabling me to hire specialist equipment when needed.
Advice to FANS members
My advice would be to enjoy the journey and celebrate the small wins and achievements as you go.
I think as athletes, we are so focused on the next competitions, the next targets, the next focus that we forget to enjoy and celebrate where we are now and how far we have already come.
Also, make sure you take your rest days seriously and actually rest!
Thank you, Jemima, for sharing your #Paris2024 experiences and the important advice for current FANS members. We wish you all the best for the future. (Photo credits: Team GB Comms; Jemima)
