Changing Minds Kent CIC (CMK) is a Kent based not for profit mental health and wellbeing community interest company that supports a range of organisations and local communities to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.
They have been working in partnership with Kent Sport and StreetGames to deliver a relief project supporting vulnerable and isolated families affected by the coronavirus pandemic to keep mentally and physically active.
Families are referred to CMK through Hartsdown Academy School who were provided with guidelines and criteria to ensure teachers and support staff can assess which families this would most benefit.
The project has distributed over 200 Tennis kits donated by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). The free tennis kits include an activity card and information about the Changing Minds ‘Mentally Fit’ YouTube support channel. The support packages have also included food parcels and essential supplies alongside the free sports equipment.
Moving forward, the team will be developing a ‘Summer voucher hamper’ to provide an additional free food parcel to families that have been supported. This will also signpost families to other local charities and include an additional ‘Summer Fit wellbeing chart’ which will include 30 challenges for August.
CMK also aim to extend the Fit and Fed project into the autumn offering the same service through an additional school, and to work with local partners including Thanet District Council to provide a ‘small scale’ community session.
