The following sketch notes were produced from our learning event which took place in October 2021 with organisations who work with disabled people and people with long-term health conditions:
Key Findings:
- Benefits of taking part include improved sense of connection; more involved in the community; improved independence, reduced anxiety; keeping everyday movement going
- Effective recruitment via word of mouth, personal recommendations, flyers, direct invitations and social media
- Value the impact of individual stories
- Use people or volunteers who understand participant needs
- Have lots of patience
- Learn and use correct vocabulary
- Don’t stereotype
- Be innovative, adapt and offer individual programs
- Collaborate with other services and organisations
- Ensure the activities are inclusive
