The 2024 Primary PE and Physical Activity Conference, organised by Active Kent & Medway took place on Wednesday 5 June, 9:00am – 3:30pm at Kent Event Centre, Detling. The full day face to face conference provided a chance for primary school teachers, sports deliverers and activity providers across Kent and Medway to hear from leading experts and take away ideas to implement in schools.

Richard Little was one of our keynote speakers. Richard is currently a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Sport & Exercise Science at Canterbury Christ Church University having spent the majority of his career as a PE teacher within Secondary Schools in Essex and London, including Head of Department positions and Director of PE and Sport at a specialist Sports College. In 2012 Richard was involved in the Kent 20in12 programme to inspire young people through the 2012 London Olympics, which won a national ‘Inspire Mark’ award.

Gethin Thomas with Liz DavidsonGethin Thomas was our other keynote speaker. Gethin is an independent consultant in the fields of education, health and wellbeing, and physical literacy informed practice. Gethin also teaches at the School of Sport Health and Exercise Science, Bangor University specialising in physical literacy informed practice and physical education pedagogy and has presented at several International conferences.

Delegates had the opportunity to attend workshops throughout the day as well as a chance to visit the ever popular marketplace to explore products and services that Primary PE and Sport Premium money can be spent on. Schools were able to use their Sports Premium funding to pay for the event and for a substitute teacher to cover a teacher’s absence.
