Active Kent & Medway is delighted to announce that a total of £4,900 grant aid has been awarded to 33 young sports performers across the county in our autumn round of funding applications. The young performers represent 19 different sports, including athletics, artistic swimming, badminton, basketball, baton twirling, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, ice hockey, kite surfing, korfball, martial arts, pétanque, roller hockey, skiing, swimming, trampolining, triathlon.

The individual grants provide essential financial support to athletes in full-time education, helping them balance academic commitments with the demands of elite sport. By helping to cover the costs of specialist equipment, travel and accommodation for training and competitions, the grant ensures that talented young athletes can continue to progress without financial barriers holding them back.

“The grant has made a huge difference. Competing at national level means regular travel and specialist kit, which adds up quickly. This support allows me to focus on training and performing without worrying about the financial strain.” FANS Member

“The FANS Small Grant is more than financial aid; it’s an investment in potential. By supporting athletes in full-time education, we help them stay committed to both their studies and their sport. It’s about enabling talent to thrive. We wish all the recipients the best of luck in their upcoming competitions and look forward to hearing how they get on.” Liz Davidson-Kennett, Active Partnership Director, Active Kent & Medway

The FANS Scheme offers a package of benefits to support national athletes in their training and development. In addition to enjoying free, off-peak access to a wide network of sports facilities across Kent and Medway, the scheme also provides discounted sport science testing and support through local universities, concessionary treatment rates at the European School of Osteopathy, and small grants for those in full-time education. These benefits are designed to help athletes stay in peak condition and continue progressing in their sporting careers.

The next round of FANS small grant funding (for those in full time education) opens late JANUARY 2026. For more information about the FANS scheme and the FANS small grant, please click on the links below:
