Zara playing ice hockeyActive Kent & Medway’s FANS scheme (Free Access for National Sports People) provides support to the county’s leading sports performers through free, off-peak access to a number of sports facilities within the county for training and development.

As part of the scheme, FANS members in full-time education in Kent and Medway can apply for grant aid to help them with the costs associated with competing at a national level.

In our latest round of funding applications, we’ve awarded grant aid to 30 young sports performers across the county. The recipients of the grant aid represent a range of sports, including korfball, swimming, triathlon, baton twirling, karate, hockey, rugby, rhythmic gymnastics, archery, ice hockey, wheelchair tennis, artistic roller dance, diving and snooker. The grants will support the FANS members with equipment costs as well as travel and accommodation to national, European and World championships.

“This is fantastic news and a huge help, I can not start to tell you how much this means to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Parent of Mia (Archery)

“We’re delighted to hear we received a grant. This means so much to us – thank you so much.” Parent of Willow (Artistic Roller Dance)

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This helps Olivia considerably and we can not wait to let you know how she gets on nationally and competing for her country. Thank you once again.” Parent of Olivia (Baton Twirling)

FANS Scheme LogoElise Rendall, Physical Activity Manager at Active Kent & Medway said, “We’re delighted to be able to support so many young performers who are starting out on their sporting careers. The small grant enables them to cover the costs of travelling and competing and we know how much this helps them when competing at such a high level. We wish all the recipients the best of luck in their upcoming competitions and look forward to hearing how they get on”.

The next round of FANS small grant funding (for those in full time education) opens in February 2024. For more information about the FANS scheme and the FANS small grant, please click on the links below:
