My name is Sophie Richmond. I am 14 years old. I competed in my first triathlon when I was nine years old at Hever Castle and loved all the disciplines, especially the running. Prior to this I had competed in Cyclo-cross and belonged to a mountain bike club in Bedgebury.
What are your sporting achievements to date?
For the last three years I have been competing in triathlon and cross country running at a national level. In 2024, I placed 5th in the British Triathlon Super Series finals. In cross country, I have won the Kent Championships for two years in a row. In the English Schools National cross country, I placed 9th and got selected to represent England in the Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB) competition in Ireland. In 2025, I am moving into the Youth races and will be competing for the southeast triathlon team.
How has the FANS scheme helped you reach where you are now?
The Fans scheme enables me to access my local swimming pool and gym. Having free access to these facilities enables me to reach my training goals. I regularly use Tenterden Leisure Centre and the Weald in Cranbrook. I also use the Julie Rose Stadium running track and Cyclopark in Gravesend, where I can train on my bike in a safe environment. I would definitely recommend applying for the FANS scheme to help with training and costs of your chosen sport.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
My aim is to continue to be the best I can. My long-term dream is to represent England at the World Championships and one day at the Olympics. In cross country, I am aiming to qualify for the SIAB Team again and represent England.
