I am 14 years old S14 para swimmer living in Hythe. I have ASC and other learning disabilities. My swimming allows me to compete and train on the same level as my normal peers. It is great for my mental health and helps me to focus on everyday living. My Grandma is the most important person in my life supporting me every day to achieve my full potential, providing me with a loving caring home and being my best friend and companion.

What are your sporting achievements to date?

I have only been a classified S14 para swimmer for about 18 months. In this time, I have competed in many higher level galas. My journey started with Winter Regionals and Nationals followed by a trip to Aberdeen. I have won several medals at county and regional level and this year I also gained several County records as well as a Regional record.

My biggest achievement came earlier this year when I received a letter selecting me for the English Schools Swimming Association to represent England at the World School U15 Games in Serbia. I travelled with the team and spent 10 days training and competing. I was fourth in 50m and 200m freestyle and was also selected to compete in the 200m Individual Medley, which I won becoming, the U15 Gymnasaide World School Games Champion 2025. Since returning home I won 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze at Southeast Regional competitions and I have also qualified for Summer Nationals at the end of July 2025.

How has the FANS scheme helped you reach where you are now?

The FANS scheme gives me additional access to sports facilities and gym equipment to build strength and conditioning, enhancing my performance. I currently use Hythe Swimming Pool and Dover Leisure Centre for training. I would recommend FANS as it helps with access to facilities and helps with extra training opportunities.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

I would like to be selected for the GB para swimming team and maybe make the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Thank you Ashton for sharing your story. We wish you all the best and look forward to following your sporting journey.
