Health Needs Assessment Report

The number of older people is predicted to increase significantly in the next 20 years. Staying active as we age isn’t just important, it is essential to boost our quality of life and help us to live better longer.

The Kent Public Health Observatory have published the Health Needs Assessment report which is a go-to guide for making movement a part of everyday life. It shows what works, highlights who stands to gain the most, and spells out the support available. It will help turn knowledge into action—promoting a healthier, more active society and reducing the high costs of inactivity.

An Introduction to Age Friendly Communities

An Age-friendly Community is a place where people of all ages are able to live healthy and active later lives. These places make it possible for people to continue to stay living in their homes, participate in the activities that they value, and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible.

This one-hour webinar, organised by Centre for Ageing Better, will cover the basics of Age-friendly Communities as defined by the World Health Organisation, and provide practical examples from UK members on their journey to become better places to grow old.

When: Wednesday 10 September 2025, 10am – 11am.

Sir Muir Gray's parkrun Insights

Sir Muir Gray, Joint Director of Live Longer Better and Let’s Walk More and author of Dr Gray’s Walking Cure, builds on how parkrun can help reform the way we envision health and wellbeing, in youth and in older age.

Helping people stay healthy and increase their wellbeing is vitally important not only for the diagnosis of disease, for acute care, and for starting the right treatment, but also for disease prevention and for adapting to live well with long term health conditions.

“What we are looking for are completely new types of service and parkrun is that service, particularly with the growth of parkwalk.”
