At Active Kent & Medway, our vision is simple: more people, more active, more often. Through our flagship campaign, Everyday Active, we’re turning that vision into meaningful action, especially within the health and care sector.

Everyday Active is more than a campaign though. It’s a movement that’s helping health professionals, GPs, social prescribers and frontline workers across Kent and Medway to confidently support their patients and service users to move more, feel better and live longer, healthier lives.

Why Movement Matters

We know that regular physical activity can reduce the risk of serious health conditions, improve mental wellbeing and support people to live independently for longer. Even small amounts of physical activity can lead to significant health improvements. Those that are least active, have the most to gain. But for many, especially those living with long-term conditions or facing health inequalities, getting started can feel overwhelming.

That’s where Everyday Active comes in.

A Toolkit for Health Professionals

The Everyday Active website is a one-stop shop for low-cost, accessible activity ideas, local opportunities and practical resources. It’s designed to make it easier for health professionals to have meaningful conversations about physical activity and to signpost people to what’s available in their local communities.

Our network of Everyday Active Champions keep the community pages up to date with local activities and opportunities, promoting the campaign at events and through their networks. These local advocates are often the bridge between health services, grassroots activity providers and local residents, helping to ensure no one is left behind.

Training and Confidence Building

We know that 1 in 4 patients would be more active if advised by a GP or a nurse. Through our free Everyday Active workshops, we equip health professionals with the skills and confidence to talk about movement in a way that’s supportive, inclusive and realistic. Whether it’s a walking group, gardening, chair-based exercise or walking sports, the focus is on what’s possible for each individual.

Recent workshops with organisations like Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust and the Kent & Medway Cancer Alliance have shown just how powerful these conversations can be.

Real Stories, Real Impact

Through personal stories, we see firsthand how small changes can lead to big results. Local individuals share how becoming more active has transformed their physical and mental wellbeing. Their stories are a powerful reminder that movement really is medicine.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud of what Everyday Active has achieved so far, but we’re just getting started. With over 600 activity pages on the website, a growing network of champions and increasing engagement from health professionals, the momentum is building.

If you’re a health professional in Kent or Medway, I encourage you to explore the Everyday Active website, connect with your local champion and join us in helping people live healthier, more active lives.
