group of people sat in a room listening to a speakerPartners from across Kent and Medway came together to celebrate five years of the Live Longer Better Network, recognising the collective effort of the network to support people aged 55+ to live longer, healthier and more active lives across the county.

The celebration event was an opportunity for existing and new members to reflect on progress, share updates and strengthen connections. It also provided space to look ahead at how partners can continue working together to increase healthy life expectancy.

The event featured guest speakers Benna McInally, Public Health Specialist at Kent County Council, who talked about Age-Friendly Communities and Jon Lambert from Hi Kent, discussing deaf awareness and how to support people with hearing loss. Alongside this, Elise Rendall, our Strategic Lead for Health and Physical Activity spoke about the newly launched Forever Active Kent Service and Patrick McGahren, our Place Project Officer, shared updates on the Place Partnerships work going on across the county. There was also valuable time for discussion, learning and networking.

I’m here to gain awareness, to meet and connect with other organisations to deliver services to get Kent moving. I’m really excited about being here.” Neal Whittle, Oakland Care

“We’ve been part of the network for a number of years and meeting up with everybody really helps us understand the scope of work that’s going on and where we can partner and collaborate together on delivering programmes for older people.” Aimee Illidge, Kent Cricket Foundation

Over the past five years, the Live Longer Better Network has grown into a strong cross-sector partnership with over 200 members, supporting collaboration between health, physical activity, voluntary and community sector organisations. Members benefit from shared learning, regular updates, online events and opportunities to connect with others working to support positive ageing across Kent and Medway.

Organisations across Kent and Medway who are committed to working together, sharing knowledge and finding better ways to support people to stay active as they age. The energy and connections from our celebration event show just how powerful partnership working can be, and I’m really excited about what we can achieve together in the years ahead.” Michelle Bird, Health and Wellbeing Officer, Active Kent & Medway

If you work with people aged 55+ and want to connect with others across Kent and Medway, the Live Longer Better Network is open to new members. By working together, we can continue to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of older people across our communities.
