“To offset the carbon footprint of our #MoveTogether2024 conference, we pledge to plant a tree for every delegate in attendance.”
Active Kent & Medway is committed to combating climate change and recognises the pressing need for action in the face of environmental challenges.
“Tree-planting seemed an obvious choice to reflect our dedication to creating a greener future. By integrating sustainability into our events, we hope to inspire others to consider their ecological footprint.” Liz Davidson, Active Partnership Director, Active Kent & Medway
On Friday 15 November, the team joined other community volunteers at Northfleet Urban Country Park to help plant some trees in support of Kent County Council’s Kent Plan Tree strategy. This strategy sets out an ambition for Kent to extend tree cover by 1.5 million new trees.
Following a quick demonstration by Nina, our Group Leader, the team got to work planting trees.
“For someone who’s not very green fingered I was surprised how much I enjoyed the tree planting. It was a great team effort with some of us digging, others planting, mulching, or on quality control. It became quite a slick operation in the end. I’d highly recommend it as a team outing, a very rewarding days’ work knowing you’re giving back to the environment and the local community. And of course, you get to do some physical activity too.” Lucy
By the end of the day, the team of volunteers had planted over 400 trees. A little bit closer to Kent’s Plan Tree target!
“Our commitment to sustainability is not just about this one-time event. It’s part of a broader vision of fostering a culture of environmental sustainability. By leading by example, we hope to inspire others to adopt similar practices and contribute to a collective effort in addressing climate change and ensuring a greener county for generations to come.” Liz Davidson, Active Partnership Director, Active Kent & Medway
