Active Kent & Medway is committed to helping make Kent Dementia Friendly and more accessible for people with a hidden disability.
Under the ‘Working To Become Dementia Friendly’ (WTBDF) accreditation scheme, we have recently been recognised for our commitment, demonstrating that we are working to become more dementia friendly and helping to make a difference to the lives of people living with dementia and their Carers.
The accreditation scheme is open to a wide range of organisations including schools, workplaces, health and care organisations, and sole traders in Kent. To obtain the accreditation, WTBDF providers are asked to undertake small actions and commit to a number of pledges to help make their organisation dementia friendly. The scheme also supports joint working with an organisation or group from another sector to help build up networks within the community and strengthen local connections.
Once accredited under the Kent WTBDF scheme, organisations are able to display the WTBDF symbol to showcase that they are working towards becoming more dementia friendly for their community. Recognised providers can use the symbol on advertising and literature and have access to their local Dementia Friendly Community support network to share best practice and influence change.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been recognised for our commitment to become Dementia Friendly, helping to make a difference to the lives of people living with dementia and their Carers. The application form was straight forward, highlighting a range of essential and optional actions that we can implement to become more dementia friendly. I hope our partners and other local organisations across Kent will join us in working to become dementia friendly, to raise awareness and support people living with dementia.”
