The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has published the government’s new sport strategy, ‘Get Active: A strategy for the future of sport and physical activity’.
Tim Hollingsworth, Sport England’s chief executive commented “The government’s new sport strategy, with its strong focus on increasing participation and ensuring sport and physical activity is accessible to everyone regardless of background or postcode, is hugely welcome and comes at an important time for our sector.
The new strategy places significant importance on tackling inequalities, which ties in well with Uniting the Movement, our own long-term commitment to ensuring everyone, no matter their circumstances, has the chance to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of being active.”
Active Kent & Medway welcome this new strategy which aligns closely with our own recently published Move Together strategy for the county.
Liz Davidson, Active Kent & Medway Partnership Director said “We fully support the Government’s new Get Active strategy and their ongoing commitment to increase activity levels. Improving the health and wellbeing of Kent and Medway residents through sport and physical activity is at the heart of our own local strategy. Working collaboratively with partners, we aim to support those who are already active, as well as tackling the inequalities that currently prevent many from enjoying the benefits that moving more can bring to their physical and mental wellbeing”.
