Daisy playing ice hockeyI’m Daisy Ayley, and I’m 11 years old. Ice hockey has been a huge part of my life for the last few years, and I’m excited to share some of the amazing experiences I’ve had so far. From being the captain of my junior team to representing England on the international stage, it’s been an incredible journey.

What are your sporting achievements to date?

One of my proudest moments was becoming the captain of my mixed under 12 junior ice hockey team. Leading my teammates has been such a rewarding experience. I also made it to the finals of the Women’s National Ice Hockey Championships with the women’s under-16’s team. It was an unforgettable moment.

Recently, I was selected to play for the England under-13’s Girls team. In February, I’ll be traveling to Canada to take part in the Quebec Peewee Tournament, one of the most prestigious youth ice hockey competitions in the world. I have dreamed of playing hockey in Canada ever since I started so this is really special to me.

Ice hockey has taught me so much – teamwork, resilience, and believing in myself. Balancing school, training, and matches isn’t always easy, but I love every second of it. I feel so lucky to have the support of my family, coaches, and teammates, who always encourage me to do my best. Whether I’m leading my team on home ice or representing England on the international stage, I’ll always give it my all.

How has the FANS scheme helped you reach where you are now?

The FANS scheme helps me a lot with access to my local leisure centre and gym to work on my off-ice programmes, as well as giving me a platform to seek out much needed sponsorship support and funding. My parents work very hard, but ice hockey is expensive, so any help is appreciated. I would encourage all athletes to take a look at the FANS scheme as it has helped me so far and I will be sure to spread the word. I know how hard it has been for myself and my parents so I would love more people to know about the support that’s available to them.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

I want to continue to develop my skills as a player and a leader. I would like to continue my pathway in England and maybe represent Great Britain one day at the Olympics. My long-term dream is to be lucky enough to get a scholarship abroad so that I can continue my hockey career and education.

Thank you Daisy for sharing your story. We wish you all the best and look forward to following your sporting journey.
