The Sport Welfare Training Hub brings together a range of free learning opportunities designed to support clubs and Club Welfare Officers in creating safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for everyone. Delivered by Active Kent & Medway’s Sport Welfare Officers, Jimmy McCormack and Rachel Daly, these sessions offer practical guidance, up-to-date safeguarding knowledge and the confidence to support participants effectively. Whether you are new to your role or looking to build on your experience, the training options below are a good place to start.

Neurodiversity in Sport

Online or in-person | 1 – 1.5 hours

The training session provides a clear overview of neurodiversity, who it is for, and how to facilitate meaningful and inclusive conversations around neurodiversity in sport. The training aims to support coaches, volunteers and the wider workforce to better understand and include neurodivergent participants; manage challenging discussions and support those working in sport through real-life scenarios.


Become an Active Bystander

Online or in-person | 1 – 1.5 hours

For sports clubs to equip coaches, athletes, and volunteers with the confidence to safely challenge bullying, harassment, and discrimination. It promotes a safer, inclusive club culture.


Safeguarding Awareness

Online or in-person | 1 hour

This session is tailored to your sports club or organisation. It will raise awareness of safeguarding and welfare within your club, help promote and create a secure, inclusive, and protective environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.


Low Level Concerns – Notice Early, Act Early

Online or in-person | 2 hours

This session is all about understanding conduct, culture and early concerns in your club. It will help you identify what a positive club culture looks like, recognise early concerns around workforce conduct, understand why policies and supporting documents matter, know how to respond appropriately to a conduct concern, understand when concerns need to be passed on or escalated, and feel more confident in helping to create safer environments for everyone.


Board/Committee Welfare Responsibilities

Online or in-person | 10 – 15 minutes

A short presentation to support your board/committee in fulfilling its welfare responsibilities. The session aims to reinforce why welfare at board level is important, what ‘good’ governance looks like, lower-level concerns and code of conduct best practice and how this all links into positive club culture.


Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop

In-person | 3 hours

This interactive session, delivered in partnership with UK Coaching, will help you recognise and respond to concerns a child may be experiencing, or be at risk of experiencing, harm, neglect, or abuse. You will learn the importance of person-centred care and taking an individualised approach to your coaching practice that puts the child or young person at the heart of every session.


Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop for Young Coaches or Volunteers

In-person | 3 hours

Created by UK Coaching specialists in child welfare, this course is designed for young coaches aged 13-15 within clubs, colleges and community clubs. It covers everything you need to know about safeguarding and child protection, making it a key part of your journey into volunteering.


Dementia Friends Awareness

Online or in-person | 1 hour

A training session for club staff or volunteers to become dementia friends. Gain knowledge and awareness to help create a more inclusive club to support people living with dementia.  Learn about Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia Friends, discover five key things everyone should know about dementia, and take part in interactive activities such as Broken Sentences and ‘Who’s Right?’ to deepen understanding. The session explains how dementia affects people and includes a personal reflection activity and concludes with practical ways to make a difference.
