Introduction
Medway is one of Kent’s four Place Partnerships areas, selected as part of Sport England’s national £250 million Place Partnerships programme to tackle inactivity and reduce health inequalities. As a Phase 2 investment area, Medway ranks among the top 20% nationally for inactivity, deprivation and health inequality, making it a key location where a place‑based, community‑led approach can make the biggest difference.
In 2025, partners across Medway, including local council teams, community organisations, sports clubs, faith groups and health services, came together to develop the area’s funding application and shape an approach grounded in local voice, local relationships and local priorities.
Our place work in Medway is about connecting and strengthening what already exists, supporting community‑led insight, and ensuring that physical activity becomes easier, more accessible and more relevant for more people. By focusing on communities with the greatest need, we aim to support better health, stronger connections and improved wellbeing across Medway.
As the Place Partnerships programme progresses, we’ll continue to listen, learn and work closely with local people and partners to create long‑term, sustainable change for Medway.
