At Active Kent & Medway, our mission is to change and improve lives through sport and physical activity. This October, we’re proud to support Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week, a national campaign led by the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU). It’s a week dedicated to empowering parents and carers with the knowledge, confidence and tools to help keep children safe while they enjoy the benefits of sport.
Why This Week Matters
Children thrive when they feel safe, supported and encouraged. Whether it’s a first swimming lesson, a weekend football match, or a school games event, every child deserves to feel protected and valued. This week is about recognising the vital role parents play in safeguarding, and how clubs, coaches and organisations like ours can support them in doing so.
What We’re Doing in Kent and Medway
Across Kent and Medway, we’re taking action. Working with our School Games Organisers and local partners, we’re sharing the campaign toolkit to help schools and clubs engage families in meaningful conversations about safety in sport. We’re encouraging schools to include safeguarding messages in their newsletters and to promote the free online training for parents available via the CPSU website.
A Shared Commitment
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. At Active Kent & Medway, we’re committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where children can flourish. As part of our commitment to the Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport campaign, our staff have completed the Parents in Sport e-learning course to better understand the role parents play in safeguarding and how we can support them. Our Safeguarding Children Policy outlines our principles and expectations for staff, volunteers and partners, ensuring that every child is treated with dignity and respect.
Play Your Part
Whether you’re a parent, coach, club volunteer or simply someone who cares, we invite you to join us in supporting this important campaign throughout the week and beyond. Talk to your children, share the resources, and help us build a culture of safety and support across Kent and Medway. Together, we can make sport a place where every child feels safe, heard and empowered.
