Delivered in partnership with Kent County Council (KCC), the new fund aims to give a helping hand to local organisations who can support and encourage Kent residents aged 50+ to take up physical activities.

KCC’s Director of Public Health, Dr Anjan Ghosh, said: “Improving strength, flexibility, balance and coordination helps people remain independent and able to do the things they love for longer. Getting active is also a great way to have fun, make new friends, power your physical and brain health and feel positive – at any time of life!”

Charities, social enterprises and clubs are among those operating within the KCC boundary who can apply for funding of up to £6,000 a year, over three years.

Visit Forever Active Kent Fund to apply by midnight, Sunday 11 January 2026.

  • Instructor fees
  • Venue hire
  • Equipment, training
  • Marketing, refreshments and administration costs, up to a maximum of 10% of the total project cost

Elise Rendall, Active Kent & Medway’s Strategic Lead for Health and Physical Activity, said: “Increasing physical activity is one of the most powerful ways to delay the onset of long-term conditions such cancer and depression. It also improves strength, balance, mental wellbeing and social connection. As Chief Medical Officers have said, ‘if physical activity were a drug, we would refer to it as a miracle cure due to the great many illnesses it can prevent and help treat’. The Forever Active Kent microgrants programme is our commitment to reshaping how we support healthy ageing in the community.”

Diane Morton, KCC Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: “We want Kent to be a county where people get active earlier in life so they can remain healthy, strong and able into their later years. The Forever Active Kent Fund is a powerful investment in our over-50s’ future wellbeing and independence. I strongly encourage local organisations and community groups to apply for a grant and join us in making a difference by celebrating and supporting ageing well.”
