What are your sporting achievements to date?
2024 was particularly successful in that I achieved a silver medal in the World Masters Canoe Marathon championships in Croatia and a bronze medal in the European Masters Championships in Portugal. Both these were achieved in the 65+ age-group mixed K2 Marathon. I am now in my 5th year of competing at international level and my 3rd year leading the GB Masters Canoe Marathon Team.
How has the FANS scheme helped you reach where you are now?
As one of the older members of the Kent’s sporting community I am so grateful for the scheme. My aerobic training is centred around the facilities at Maidstone Leisure Centre. I use them about four times a week as part of my preparation for the two international championships that I compete in. It is hard enough doing the technical training required. The FANS card allows me to fit in my fitness training before work or in the darker evenings. The results are so rewarding.
