The Forever Active Kent Fund has officially launched, marking a major step forward in our mission to help older adults across Kent stay active, connected and independent for longer. The new funding stream is more than just a grant though. It’s a commitment to reshaping how we support active ageing at a community level.

Kent has one of the fastest-growing older populations in the country and with that comes both challenges and opportunities. We know that physical activity is one of the most powerful tools we have to delay the onset of long-term conditions, reduce falls and improve mental wellbeing and social connection.

As the UK Chief Medical Officer stated: “If physical activity were a drug, we would refer to it as a miracle cure”.

The Forever Active Kent Fund is designed to empower local organisations to deliver inclusive, accessible and sustainable activity opportunities for older adults across Kent.

What the Fund Offers

The fund is open to charities, clubs and not-for-profit organisations operating within the Kent County Council boundary. It’s designed to support a wide range of community-based physical activity initiatives, from dance classes and social sport to strength and balance sessions. Successful applicants will receive:

  • Grants to deliver new or enhanced physical activity programmes aimed at those 50+
  • Training to build confidence and embed behaviour change principles
  • Marketing toolkits to help promote their offer and reach their communities effectively
  • Evaluation support to measure impact and share learning

Designed with Providers and Residents in Mind

Forever Active Kent is a collaboration and has been shaped through extensive consultation with local partners, including health professionals, community groups and older residents themselves. We’ve listened to what’s needed: flexible funding, practical support and a clear focus on outcomes that matter, like improved mobility, reduced loneliness and stronger community ties.

We’ve worked closely with colleagues within Kent County Council Public Health Team and NHS partners to ensure the grant aligns with wider health and wellbeing priorities.

For activity providers, the Forever Active Kent Fund is a chance to grow, innovate and reach more people. For residents, it means more opportunities to move in ways that feel safe, social and enjoyable. And for all of us, it’s a step towards a future where ageing is not about decline, but about possibility.
