Imago Youth Cafes run after school during term time with a number of school holiday activity days also available. All sessions are fun learning opportunities, focusing on building confidence, participation, life skills and independence.
Imago Saturday Clubs offer monthly clubs as well as a number of school holiday activity days. Sessions focus on transition and progression by providing young people with activities that use local community facilities.
The project was aimed at young Disabled People aged 8 to 19 that live in Kent.
The funding received was spent on:
- Online boxing and exercise classes (during November lockdown).
- Group trips and activities prior to the November lockdown that took place.
- Purchasing sports equipment and activity packs.
The Impact
The funding received has meant Imago Short Breaks has been able to deliver a different range of active and engaging activities than would have previously able due to budgets. We have been able to provide a number of exciting opportunities with the funding, which has included reaching those who are isolating during COVID-19 (with our online boxing classes), and for those that would otherwise find it difficult or have barriers in the way to access local sporting facilities such as clip n climb centres, trampolining parks and bowling alleys. The young people were instrumental in helping to choose activities and relished the opportunity to do activities with their friends that their mainstream peers would do.
They thoroughly enjoyed their time out of the house, it has been difficult to motivate them to do anything other than sit playing on their Xbox so this trip was a godsend.
